The SOF® Tourniquet is based on its original robustness and durability, which was the result of an extensive research initiative that compiled research and laboratory studies for users. The Tourniquet is made of high-strength, lightweight alloy components. Thanks to its design, the Tourniquet can slide over a limb. When the limb is pinched, the Tourniquet can be quickly released around the limb and closed again without having to rethread the strap. With an application method for both the arm and leg, the SOF® Tourniquet is the easiest Tourniquet to use and can result in less blood loss and ultimately better patient care.
The totally secure and easy-to-use closure of the SOF® Tourniquet allows the Tourniquet to be applied very quickly, without threading. This reduces the stress factor, shortens the time required for application and reduces blood loss. The 38 mm wide ligation band ensures higher compression than most other standard tourniquets, which often have a wide loop but only a 2.5 cm wide internal band. The wide ligating band not only allows for greater compression, but also provides greater comfort for the injured patient. The toggle of the SOF® Tourniquet, as with all SOF® Tourniquet, is machined from a single piece of aircraft aluminum, preventing stability problems at higher loads, for example when applied to the thigh.
The design of the SOF® Tourniquet reduces the risk of accidental opening or failure due to material fatigue. Unlike Velcro connections, the SOF® Tourniquet continues to function even when smeared, frozen, wet or soaked.
